temp
Scorching temperatures are on the way. We’ll see highs approaching and at times exceeding 100 starting tomorrow and lasting for the next several days. Sunny skies and little to no wind may make for less than pleasant conditions out there but we’ll still be fishing the MO, will you? If so be sure to cover up. We’ve got all the sun protection items you may need in stock at Wolf Creek Angler.

The river flows dropped to 3800 yesterday prompting the order to increase flows from Canyon Ferry in order to maintain that 4100 cfs below Holter that we’ve been promised for the summer. We’re not quite there yet but at 3950 the trend is in the right direction.

The bugs are here in force (PMD’s and Caddis) though the dry fly fishing reports have been all over the board for the past few days ranging from poor to lights out and eveything in-between. The consensus has been that there have been plenty of bugs and plenty of fish eating, it’s just been a matter of getting them to eat your fly. Make the cast, get the drift, get the eats – it’s as simple as that. There have been some patterns which have been working better than others but it’s more often a case of being patient and changing flies often until you find what works and then changing flies again after that one doesn’t work anymore. Patience and a good cast and a great drift will pay huge dividends. Blow the cast, drag or skate the fly and you could be in for a LONG day.

Nymphing on the other hand has been, by most accounts, off the charts with the purple weight fly/split case PMD combo consistently getting eaten. Other good bugs have been tailwater sows, light peep shows, tung darts, Psycho Mays, S & M’s , Autocads, San Juan Worms and Olive Two Bit Hookers. The variations in flows from day to day are keeping those fish on the move but that being said, they are everywhere! Shallow fast water, deeper slower water, deeper faster water, drop offs, riffles, flats…they really are everywhere.

Lots of traffic out there right now. On early – off late – summertime on the MO. Stop by and see us on your way to the river for everything you need for your day on the water including the aforementioned Split Case PMD’s, shuttles, sun protection, fishing licenses, ice, piles of PMD’s and Caddis patterns and much much more.
