It’s Streamer TIme on the MO

Life returned to the Missouri this week with angling traffic on a steady rise. After a few weeks of relative solitude it’s nice to have folks around the shop again.

It’s always nice to have the river to yourself but the fall traffic, even at its peak, tends to afford plenty of unoccupied water with folks spreading out river wide. The exception, as usual, is the dam where boats tend to stack up in the grass flats making things feel on the crowded side but if you float elsewhere the trade of slightly fewer fish for a lot less traffic is one I’ll take any day.
If the dam is your thing zebras and sows should be your go to bugs.

Temps have cooled this week and we’ve seen some much needed rain, making for ideal conditions on the water. The weekend ahead looks pleasant with temps in the low 70’s and partly sunny skies and we’ll see things take another autumn turn next week with highs in the 60’s and the potential for rain each day.

Quintessential Montana early autumn weather. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Hoppers and ants are still in play and October Caddis have started to make an appearance and should not be overlooked as a blind offering.

That being said, fall is for streamer fishing and the time has come. Weeds are the norm on the MO during the fall season. Be mentally prepared and go to work. Your efforts will often be rewarded, though sometimes not.

Conventional wisdom dictates smaller bugs. Convention is fine. But don’t be afraid to defy convention and throw some meat, knowing that big fish eat big bugs but also keeping in mind that big bugs pose substantial challenges where weeds are concerned.

We are your Streamer Authority on the MO with the biggest, baddest streamer selection on the river and the tools to deliver them. We’ve got a wide range of sinking lines ranging from intermediate to triple density to Shovel Heads…something for any and all conditions and situations.

How about a new streamer stick? We’ve got em’. Sage Payload and Igniter, Echo Streamer X, Lamson Cobalt, Redington Predator. There’s something to fit every budget.

The colors are changing, the autumn chill pervades. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Shop hours are 7 AM – 5 PM daily. We’re full a few nights here and there but for the most part we’ve got vacancies if you’re interested in a last minute trip to the MO. If you need a guide next week you’re out of luck but the autumn influx begins to recede as September dwindles so a late September or October guide trip is definitely something we can help you with. We’ve got Adipose drift boats for rent for the DIY crowd and we are, of course, home of the CHEAPEST DAM SHUTTLES ON THE MO.

We hope to see you soon for fall fishing at its best.
