November on the Missouri

November on the Missouri

It’s a fishy looking day out there today. Rain/snow mix and lots of cloud cover…perfect conditions save the northerly breeze keeping things on the chilly side, just shy of comfortable.

It is the second week of November however so the weather is to be expected. Certainly tolerable and even enjoyable if you dress appropriately. Layer up and have at it. A little Primaloft and Gore Tex go a long way in keeping you protected from the elements and thinking about fishing rather than how miserable you are. Hot coffee and a thermos full of hot soup can certainly take the edge off as well. Book a late fall or winter guide trip with us and our guides will certainly see to it that you have plenty of both.

We’ve heard some good reports from the past couple of days but some lackluster ones as well. Nymphing is getting it done and streamer fishing is the best it’s been this fall ( which isn’t saying a whole lot but those putting the time in are finding some willing players). Dry fly fishing has been inconsistent – hampered by sunshine and wind but there are bugs and there are fish – you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I plan to run down to the river after work today to see if I can catch some last light action. Stay tuned!

Things are definitely quiet around Wolf Creek and Craig but we are doing a decent lodging business between the hunters and the remaining anglers and we’re still busy enough in the shop that we will continue to be open every day at 7 AM for all of your late season Missouri River Fly Fishing needs.

Shuttles, Bugs, Cold Weather gear from KAST and Redington, great end-of-season deals on Echo and St Croix rods as well as select Nautilus and Ross Reels. Leaders, lines and tippet from Rio, Airflo and Trout Hunter, Fishpond Nomad nets, piles of tools and accessories, Flyagra, Titan Rod Vaults and much more.

Make Wolf Creek Montana your late season Missouri River fly fishing destination. With comfortable affordable lodging and a first fly shop and guide service at WCA, two bar/restaurants, the only gas station/convenience store between Helena and Cascade and the closest proximity to Holter Dam and Wolf Creek Bridge why go anywhere else?
